Damascus...my city... was...and was...but..how does it look like today..? ah...somtimes i feel that all the snow on this earth is not enough to cool the fire in my heart ...if u want to come to damascus to live...then u have choosen the wrong place...but if u wana come here to cry...on all that glory which spreaded from Spain to China...on all those nights when Umayad masjed was not a museum..but the house of Allah shining with candeles which gave barely enough light for the hundreds of damascusians gathering for Isha prayer...............then it is the proper place, Brother!
Cry..brother... maybe a drop of tear from each muslim followed by a real pure Doaa for Damascus ..would clean Barada and heart of Barada...

Jazakullah kheyrun,

Really beautiful description. I recently heard a lecture on the ettiquites of a student of knowledge. Sh. Yasir Qadhi said that he/she should pick the appropriate Sheikh. If there was a section saying he/she should pick the appropriate location, I think Dimashq would be it. SubhanAllah : "Once I saw hundreds of men following a funeral bier through the souk. Each store would ‘close’ by putting something at their entrance or closing their door out of respect."
As salaamu alekum
