Couldn't agree with you more regarding the whole psych bit sister... it always frustrated me how psychology and psychiatry are routinely dismiised, evne though the benefits are so plainly evident! May Allah azawajal protect us from our own neglects, ameen.

shaz i think there were some ppl that did try, like his professor went to the police with the writings and tried to tutor him, the roomate went to the police when he thought he was suicidal and they brought him to a mental institute for one night. i think the major problem is that he was never diagnosed with anything and they didn't follow up with evaluations. there was no real system on campus to deal with kids with major mental issues. and there's no system to deal with stalkers.

our society just keeps feeling the effects of complex problems but never tries to solve the causes. maybe if we put more money towards mental health facilities, helping these people earlier. they could then filter them in high school/college and get them the help they need. you and i both studied psychology and know how much drugs and counseling helps people, but most people still don't put any stock in psychology and psychiatry.

lastly why do they let people with mental issues buy guns!! they do a criminal background check, but nothing to see if the person is suicidal or has stalked girls before??

about chaining the doors. first in case anyone else is reading islamically killing innocent people is completely wrong and we know islam teaches that killing one innocent person is like killing all of humanity. murder is a major sin and is punished in the hellfire. and we know a "muslim" who commits such an act is not following muslim teachings, so it begs the question if they are muslim.

anyways, i just don't think a person who say wanted to make a statement against the iraq war, about what's happening in palestine or elsewhere or had some other grievance or wanted "americans to feel their pain" would not chain the doors closed so no one could escape and go into every classroom looking at each person in the face and shooting them 3 times each, try to break down the door of one classroom where students barricaded the door and come back to check if people were dead or not and finishing them off if they weren't. i may be wrong but i just don't see it so that's why i felt it couldn't be a "muslim".

it was sr azmat, goes to hvcc now, she was a little girl we used to know who lived in albany, in the accident she seems much better, has a number of stitches on her leg but is recovering..make dua for her

When the news reported that he had chained the doors closed before he went in, I knew that he could not be Muslim.

salaam,

*sigh* it's so messed up... but you know what really bothers me... we can may be make some excuses for the shooter because he was obviously mentally sick.. but it's the behavior of other "normal" people that really makes me wonder and worry at the state of the world... he writes psychotic creepy writings in his literature class and no one really wants to get too involved or do anything about it... two people get SHOT on campus and the police don't think it's necessary to close down classes for the day... ?!! how disinterested are we in other people's lives, that these things happen and we just kind of look the other way?

and it's really disgusting for NBC to broacast all his garbage for the world to see just for the ratings... it's a clear msg to other people like him.... 'if you're a loser in this life, just go out with a bang and we'll make you a star'

I really feel sometimes that humanity is just getting sicker and sicker, and we need to do some serious diagnosing and treatment... may Allah protect us and our families and help us...
