Matrimonial site?

So I’ve kind of been thinking about this idea FOR YEARS. That is creating a matrimonial site. But the obvious problem has always been how to filter out the freaks and protecting the sisters. I still don’t know how to do that. But last night we had a halaqah here and the shaikh talked about how if you help to remove a burden from someone in this life, Allah will lift a burden from you on the Day of Judgment. And I know how hard it is to look for someone decent, especially for older people.

Yes I know there are a billion sites out there, but they all charge money and I think are pretty much full of freaks. So I don’t know. It’s still an idea… suggestions, criticisms, naysayers? what do you guys think??

Interesting… lol… last thing i thought of when the Shaykh shared that hadith, but then again, i don’t have the creative mind you have. I say if you do it, it’ll be a success. You can call it Jannah on Earth Matrimonials :-)

the idea is appealing…for those who don’t want to “date” but you have to realize to regulate this type of thing will be enourmous and filteration of brothers and sisters will be required…but good luck..with it…

As-salamu alaykum. I just realized that you now have a blog and I was reading your posts, and spotted this one. You are mistaken about one thing: they don’t all charge fees. At least, Zawaj.com does not. It’s 100% free. As for being full of freaks, I don’t know what you mean by that. I personally screen every profile that appears on Zawaj.com and I don’t allow any profile that seems fake, insincere, or un-Islamic. Sometimes that means deleting as many as half the profiles.

If you were to start your own matrimonial service I’m sure you would do a great job. But I have to warn you: it’s a LOT of work. Constant, never-ending work. Even if you program many of the features to be automated, if you want to keep un-Islamic profiles out of the system it requires some degree of oversight. Also, you will get a lot customer service requests, so you either need an advanced help ticket system, or you’ll be answering a lot of emails. Lastly, it takes money. Web programming is constantly evolving, so if you don’t have the skills to redevelop the site yourself then you will have to hire someone to do it.

In short, it’s a major undertaking. If you choose to try it may Allah grant you success.

wsalaam, Interesting. When did you turn free? I think that’s a good move. As for screening, I’m sure you do screen, but you’re only reading their profile. You don’t know the person and what they say when they contact a sister or how they really are. To me a freak is someone who contacts someone 20+ years younger than them or someone who is married and looking for a second wife without telling the first! I’m sure it’s all valid, but I don’t want to marry them and I don’t know any other sister really who would. I don’t want to start a matrimonial site like what’s out there like classifieds etc. I’m thinking of something different, more like a marriage site and sharing of info. So we’ll see inshallah. Jazakallah khair for your advice.
