Shadows of Time

How often have I stood here,
dreaming that you were with me.

Ok I love independent films. The kind that have real meaning and at the end you’re just stunned and left wondering… what the??@!! and then you keep thinking about the people and story. Films like books can change everything. They can change the world and how you see things. I wish more Muslims were into film making but I think that’s going to change over time, inshaAllah.

So anyway I watched this German film called “Shadows of Time” (which was really quite beautiful link/ ) recently where it shows the 60+ years of the life of these two children (girl & boy) who grow up as child labourers in a carpet factory in Kolkata. At a few points in their life they miss meeting each other and certain opportunities and things by just a few moments. (twists of fate you could say).

To the point where the main protagonist one day stands staring out into the rain and says to the effect of “I’m thinking about what it feels like when when you know if you could change one moment from the past, 10 seconds, not more, then your entire life would be different.”

So I’ve been thinking about this.. is there a 10 seconds in your life where if fate had just changed that moment, moved things ever so slightly if u had moved ur head, turned around, saw someone, said something, received something would ur whole life follow a different path and be completely different?

Remember Romeo & Juliet when he just missed receiving the letter thus causing the whole story to end in tragedy.

We know these things are fated (by Allah) just wondering if anyone had them? I think the closest I came was almost getting stampeded during tawaf during Hajj. If I had been just to the right, just to the left, front, back anywhere except where I was I dont know what would have happenned that day.

That reminds me of this Ayat ^. And if Im not mistaken, I think there is an ayat which mentions that the things which mightve happened, but didnt happen, He would know the results of those happenings, I dont remember which Ayat, but Sheikh Mokhtar mentioned it once. Really deep to think about subhanAllah

SubhanAllah, gives us kind of a reassurance doesn’t it that Allah knows everything and that nothing happens without His permission. Jazakallah for the verse.

Hi Prroshant (for those of you who don’t know the MAIN CHARACTER IN THE MOVIE!) Wow I’m so excited you posted on my blog!!! I’m really a big fan of the movie, not sure why exactly… it’s just such a beautifully filmed and written movie that has some very deep themes that call to me. No problem about spreading the word, I’ve been telling everyone since the summer :) Take care and good luck in your career. I hope you star in many lovely films!
