Eid Mubarak!

Eid Mubarak everyone!! :)

One of the most beautiful songs ever sung by one of the greatest singers ever.

I actually like their lyrical not really literal translation too. Lyrics:

Chandni Raatein – These Moonlit Nights
Original 1955

Ik tees jigar mein uthti hay
My whole being throbs with pain
Ik dard sa dil mein hoota hay
There is an ache deep in my heart
Hum raatoon ko uth kar rootay hain
I get up at night to weep
Jab sara alam sota hai hooo
While the rest of the world is sleeping

Chandni raatein, chandni raatein
These moonlit nights

Sab jag soay hum jagein
All the world is sleeping, and I alone am awake
Taroon se karein baatein
I can talk to the stars

Chandni raatein hoo chandni raatein
These moonlit nights

Taktey taktey tuti ja ay aas piya na aay ree taktey taktey
As I wait my yearning grows weary but my beloved does not come
Sham sawaray dard anookhay uthay jiya ghabra ay ree sham sawaray
From dawn to dusk, strange pains come and frighten me
Raatoon ne mere neend lootli raatoon ne mere neend lootli dil ke cheen chura ay
I lose sleep and all peace of mind
Dukhiya ankhein dhoond rahi hain wohi pya ki khatein
My sad eyes still long to see my love

Chandni raatein hooo chandni raatein
These moonlit nights

pichly raat mein hum uth uth kar chupke chupke rooein raay pichly raat mein.
Last night I arose and wept quietly
Sukh ki neend mein meet humaray desh para ay sooin re sukh ki neend mein.
While my beloved slept peacefully in a foreign land

Dil ke dharkanay tujhay pukarain,
My heart cries out
Dil ke dharkanay tujhay pukarain aja balam aai baharein
My heart cries out, “Come my beloved the Spring is here!”
Beth kay tanhai mein kar lein dukh sukh ki do baatein
All alone, let us talk of joy and sorrow

Chandni raatein hoo chandni raatein
These moonlit nights

  • ahem… well… I think we know who you can sing this one to ;)

  • If you want to live, live with a smile,
    Live with love, don’t cry
    Don’t shed your tears.
    There are storms, there are
    disasters;

In life there are ups and downs.
    But don’t shed your tears.

    Smile—pain is part of life,
    But ?nally you get joy.
If you want to live, live with new hopes,
    Live with new aspirations.
    Live with love.
    Live with a smile.

The Best Day of My Life

Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized
that this is the best day of my life, ever!

There were times when I wondered if I would
make it to today; but I did!
And because I did I’m going to celebrate!

Today, I’m going to celebrate what an
unbelievable life I have had so far:
    the accomplishments, the many blessings,
    and, yes, even the hardships
because they have served to make me stronger.

I will go through this day
with my head held high, and a happy heart.
I will marvel at God’s seemingly
simple gifts: the morning dew, the sun,
the clouds, the trees, the flowers,
the birds. Today, none of these miraculous
    creations will escape my notice.

Today, I will share my excitement for life
    with other people. I’ll make
someone smile. I’ll go out of my way to
    perform an unexpected act of
kindness for someone I don’t even know.

    Today, I’ll give a sincere
compliment to someone who seems down.
I’ll tell a child how special he is,
and I’ll tell someone I love just how deeply
I care for them and how much
    they means to me.

Today is the day I quit worrying about
what I don’t have and start being
grateful for all the wonderful things
God has already given me. I’ll
remember that to worry is just a
waste of time because my faith in God and
his Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine.

    And tonight, before I
go to bed, I’ll go outside and raise my
eyes to the heavens. I will stand
in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon,
and I will praise God for
    these magnificent treasures.

As the day ends and I lay my head down
on my pillow, I will thank the
Almighty for the best day of my life.
And I will sleep the sleep of a
    contented child, excited with expectation
because I know tomorrow is going
to be the best day of my life, ever!
