I dont know if i should discuss this, but why is thier so much hostilities between the mudhabs? why is it that so many muslims label themselves as comijng from a certain group, and then only sticking with that group?
Would the four major Muhabs be amongt those 72 groups which the Prophet Muhhamed said would go to hell?
I am always saddened when i'm turned down for marriage proposals because i'm a Salafi. I cannot understand why. All i'm doing is following the way of the Sahaaba, the earliest generations, and its used agianst me like its a bad point to me. I dont engage in innovations, or shirk, so why this hostilities?
I've had several turned down, where sits got to the point where the girl has all but agreed to marry me, then when i mention i lean towards the salafi's, its always the same response i.e. err oh dear, sorry, i'm only looking to marry x, i can't marry y.
well i guess if thats how they are taught, then i can't really complain.
But i have never come across any hadiths saying we should join separate groups. So whats going on?

|wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,|
There are some scholars that say that it's necessary to follow a madh-hab, others that say it is not, and still others say that it's good to follow a madh-hab for the most part, but if there is an ayah or hadeeth or majority opinion that clearly contradicts the opinion of that madh-hab, then that is what one should follow. So scholars do differ on the issue.
Also a madh-hab houses within it many different scholars who may have different opinions on the same issue. The concept of madhahib and schools of thought is not as simplistic as some people may think, and are usually defined as just ways or methods or roads of looking at things.
I doubt very much that taking on a madh-hab makes you part of a deviant sect. It really is a very grave and serious thing to say that this or that person/sect/group is going to jahannam. Adab al-ikhtilaaf is something that should be studied with someone knowledgeable as it is a complex issue.
Because this seems to be a topic of much controversy, controversy that leads to a lot of argumentation and not a lot of benefit, the issue of whether it is required for all Muslims to follow a madh-hab is not allowed on the board. We did have some discussions on this in the past (and those threads were locked as well) if you wish to seek them out in the Madrasatul Ilm and the Ark.
Forgive me if I have offended you, and if you have any questions or if this issue was not what you were seeking to discuss, please feel free to email or madina message me.
I'm going to inshaAllah lock this thread.
Jazakam Allahu khayran.
