Islamic Republic: Muslims must react to 'Zionists-led' insult of American pastor
Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi here on Sunday called on Islamic countries to react to an American pastor's insult to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), saying it was incited by the Zionists.
Speaking in a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Abdelouahed Belkeziz, the Iranian foreign minister said that the insult was part of the 'American mass media's psychological and propaganda war which is conducted by the Zionists'.
"By creating such an environment in its media, the American government which claims to respect Islam and Muslims has proved once again that it is seeking political, military and cultural domination on the world," Kharrazi said.
American ultra-conservative evangelist Jerry Falwell has reportedly called Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) 'a terrorist' in a CBS television interview.
"Islamic countries, especially the OIC, must not remain silent in the face of such impertinence and must not let the clash of religions and civilizations which is definitely in line with the Zionists' objectives to become real," Kharrazi said.
Belkeziz said he will raise up the issue of 'this Christian pastor's irresponsible remarks' in a meeting with heads of the World Council of Churches (WCC).
The Iranian foreign minister described the situation in the Middle East as 'sensitive, especially in view of the Zionists' exploitation of the existing atmosphere'.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference holds a grave responsibility to use all capacities of the Islamic world and prevent the objectives of the Zionists and their supporters from materializing, Kharrazi said.
He renewed his condemnation of the American Congress' recent move to recognize Beit-ul-Moqaddas as Isr**l's capital, saying President George W. Bush's signing of the bill was a first step in 'the Zionist regime's expansionist and aggressive plans'.
Kharrazi also urged members of the OIC to help avert a possible war between Washington and Baghdad amid American threats to attack Iraq.
"Iraq, by fully cooperating with the United Nations and its inspectors, must remove any pretext for America to create war and tension in the region," he added.

Muslims & Christians in Palestine condemn American preacher's anti-Islamic remarks
Muslim and Christian religious leaders in Palestine have strongly condemned the anti-Islamic remarks of American fundamentalist preacher Rev. Jerry Falwell made during an interview with the American TV network, CBS.
Falwell, during the interview which is to be aired in full Sunday, made insulting remarks against the Prophet of Islam.
"These remarks are repugnant, they do not represent Christianity in any way," said Atallah Hanna, a prominent Christian Orthodox leader in Palestine and spokesman of the Orthodox Patriarchy of Al-Qods.
"Authentic Christianity respects Islam; we lived among Muslims for the past 1400 years and our experience contradicts Falwell's views."
Atallah appealed to Muslims not to give ample attention to Falwell's remarks.
"We appeal to our Muslim brethren to realize that these repugnant statements in no way represent Christians and their religion," said Hanna, adding that "the grave remarks vilified Christianity as much as it vilified Islam."
Hanna castigated "Christian Zionism," saying that "it bears a Christian name but has a Zionist heart."
Muslim religious leaders also castigated Falwell's remarks as "an expression of ignorance and fanaticism."
"This man's tongue functions much more swiftly than his mind does. I think his knowledge of Islam is effectively nil," said Sheikh Hasan Yousuf, a high-ranking Islamic official in Al-Qods.
"If he had truly studied Islam, he wouldn't have uttered these mendacious and venomous words," said Yousuf.
Sheikh Taysir Tamimi, the chief judge in the West Bank, also condemned Falwell's statements, calling them "grave and dangerous."
"I suspect that brash ignorance and fervent fanaticism prompted Falwell to say what he said. If Americans obtain their information about Islam from Falwell and the likes of him, then it would be a catastrophe."
Tamimi called on Americans to study Islam objectively and not be galvanized by ignorant anti-Islamic preachers like Falwell and Pat Robertson.
"If you want to know Islam, come to Muslim lands and ask Christians who have been living amongst us for centuries."
Jerry Falwell is considered among the most pro-Isr**li and anti-Islamic Christian leader in the United States.
In his book, the Fundamentalist Phenomenon, Falwell argued that God deals with nations in accordance with the way these nations deal with Isr**l.
In 1982, he refused to condemn the Sabra and Shatila massacres, arguing that Jews, whom he described as God's ethnic people, were beyond criticism.
