I am unable to post new posts to my blog. In a way it is good, because jannah.org gets to read me. In a way it is bad, because you may think I am pestering you too much.
Anyway, something happened today, that perhaps you should know about.
First, you know by now that the world has me fooled all (OK, most) of the time. Almost everyone has been able to hoodwink me here, but I always find one reason or the other to excuse their behavior.
I have a neighbor from about 25 years. We were tenants of semi-detached houses for eight years with a common wall. He is older than me, but was junior in my company. He has moved up, whle I have stayed in one place. And there were times when I defended him so that his job wouldn't suffer. I found that he undercut me at times, but well, we do not have a reciprocity pact, so I excused him.
When our landlord told us to find other accomodation, this neighbor of mine persuaded me that we should buy a large plot together, and subdivide it. We did that, and I lent him a considerable amount because he was short of his share. I built and moved earlier than him. When he was building his house, I advised him, and have helped him in whatever he has needed. He has had a much larger (three-storeys) house, while I have had one, and I am building another storey.
He has decided to build some more, and in that he has dug up not only his backyard, but also the area under the pavement, which is not his, but the municipal authorities'. Under this pavement he has built a spacious room.
So far, so good, although he has grabbed land belonging to the authorities, I am not going to raise the matter with them.
Today my servant told me that my neighbor has dug the earth beneath the floor of my house from the side, and is planning on building a room underneath my floor.
I checked, but when I went my neighbor tried to divert my attention to other work he is doing. This digging has been done under the stairs so it isn't visible, unless one goes there. I persevered, and I got there, and found it is true.
I asked my neigbor how could he even think of it. He simply brushed it away as something of no consequence. When I insisted,he says he will rebuild the wall. I said what about the hole under my floor that your digging has left behind, and he says it isn't important.
It isn't important to him, it is to me.
The neigbor's wife had gone religious, given up many bida`as, has a dars going for women and children at her house, and in fact her sons are the most well-behaved and regular in salaah and learning the deen.
So the only persons I can trust here are my own siblings, or my wife and children.
What a stupid world to live in, or rather what a stupid person I am to be livng in this clever world!

Dunno much about architecture but urmmm if he's dug up beneath your house (or part of it) doesn't that make your structure slightly unsafe???
(as an aside) sorry not been around I'm suffering from a suspected broken foot...will get it confirmed on Monday....
However I am still sorting what I promised I would sort out OK :)

I pray and hope it isn't a broken foot. :)

precisely! The guy was counting on the concrete to hold itself until he had built some support underneath. He had broken open my wall from the side. 10 ft long, and 10 feet high, and he had dug 6 feet deep inside. He would have built some brick support, and placed some RCC under my floor maybe, or maybe not.
What makes me sick is this attitude of doing whatever one thinks is good for one in this world, without regard to anyone else's rights. and this has been my experience of people here throughout, except my dead friend, and of course, my siblings.
After I caught him and left him after telling him to rectify this, he talked to his mason, but his worry was not that he had done anything immoral or illegal. He was only interested in finding out how I had come to know of this.
It is a sick, sick world!

|[slm] well, some good news|
The guy is now building walls to retain the earth that his digging had opened up. He is pouring concrete behind the brick wall and the earth to fill the gaps. When the walls reach near the top of the digging, he is going to slide RCC slabs underneath, and then he is going to rebuild the original wall separating his house from mine.
This was already being done, but I had told my wife to talk to his, because as I put it, the controls of husbands lie with the wives. :)
This has already cost him a pretty penny. He was complaining of that, and has thought up an excuse for the digging. Well, I have accepted that excuse, but my wife is now angry with me for doing that.
I don't think there will be a repeat. And I am thinking of a treat for his children and mine so that the issues of ownership and responsibility are resolved now, and no misunderstandings remain. Some time in the future, though :)

So you decided to invest in real estate with a neighbor who has given you trouble before? And this is ISB/RWP real estate? And this is not for investment purposes at all...but rather property for actual residence?! I hope you got the "A" plot" :D
(I just used up my entire life savings, which wasn't all that much, to invest in ISB/RWP real estate...that's all I've been doing lately: checking out the different housing authorities.)
Here's the thing, brother...my parents, although I love them to death have also been the subject of maannnnyyyyyy incidents like this. Alhamdulillah there's some supernatural force of Allah's that gets them through these things, but it pains me to see them always being taken advantage of...like all the time.
About 80% of this is due to the fact that my father is an innately nice person, mashaAllah. Nicer than anyone else I know...but I guess he just forgets to be nice to himself sometimes. Or maybe he just forgets that it's completely okay to be nice to yourself BEFORE you are nice to others.
Just look out for your family...because once your kids get to be my age, and once they start taking matters into their hands...well...I've decided to leave that sentence as a fragment :)
It's nice to see things working out...Alhamdulillah.
Take it easy.

|[slm]Bro Timbuktu.I'm truly sorry to hear this, you are mashallah a good person and for another muslim to take advantage of this makes me really >:(.You give a person a little room and belive in being generous and good and they want all that you have! Subhanallah! May Allah give you patience in this matter but you seem to have given him many chances. Also think of your family inshallah, just be firm and tell him, he can do what he wants with his share of land but to dig you out of your house is totally unacceptable! Why are people just ruled by desires of this Dunya? I would be afraid to face my Creator after having done this to another muslim.Allah(SWT) sees all, it's not all for naught! My concern is his pushy way of trying to dig from under you, this bro, you need to address inshallah ASAP!May Allah(SWT) make things easier on you. Also I have to say it's good to know about good muslims like you, who give others help( there are those who deserve them and there are others who spit in your face even after being helped!).Ummnajmah|

I think I can recall a hadith about such a situation which says, "Momin is never stung twice from the same hole"
But Mystic have slightly different point of view about such situations and I think it does deserve to give some attention to it. Once one friend of mine told me a story and I think it's appropriate to mention it over here.
Once there was a Mystic and his pupil, they were comming back from a mosque after fajr prayer. It was winter and quite cold outside. In their way back to home the Mystic saw a baby snake which was near to die due to cold. Mystic picked up the baby snake and tried to comfort it by giving warmth of his palms. The pupil interrupted his teacher and warned him that as soon as the snake got well it would sting him. The Mystic didn't agree and kept on giving warmth of his hands to the snake. Shortly the same thing happened what was expected, when the blood of the snake got warm it stung the same palm which saved it's life. The Mystic got a bid scared and opened his hands. The snake got the chance and ran away in the bushes. The pupil said, "Teacher! I warned you that it would hurt you latter on and there is no need to take pitty on a snake". The Mystic replied calmly, "Son! you have no idea about a creature of God, stinging is the only language what God has taught to snake, so actually he thanked me for my kindness in his language before leaving ............."
