As salaam alaikum.

I find that my ideas for writing have been drying up lately. As a result I have changed focus a bit and am writing some fictional stories and exercises for family. My wife and I have four kiddies (alhamdulillah) to test these on.

If you have children try them out and let me know what you think.

Hurtful Words

Celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and pray for His Forgiveness: For He is Oft-Returning (in Grace and Mercy). (110:3)

Aisha was helping set the table for Iftar. When she moved a platter to make room for a jug of water, she knocked a glass off the table. Aisha started to cry as she looked down at the mess on the floor.

"You clumsy idiot!" yelled her brother Ismail. "How come your always breaking things?"

May I Watch TV?

I swear by the time, most surely man is in loss, except those who believe and do good, and enjoin on each other truth, and enjoin on each other patience. (103: 1-3)

"May I watch a little TV Ummie?" Hajar asked her mother.

"What are you going to watch inshall'Allah?" her mother asked.

"I am not sure," said Hajar. "I'll find something."

"That's is not the way to use television." said her mother. "You should not turn it on just to see what is there; you should turn it on to see a program that you want to watch."

Talking throught sadness

Verily the Companions of the Garden shall that Day have joy in all that they do (36.055)

Miriam noticed her mother sitting by herself in the backyard. Her mother had been sitting there for a long time.

"Are you sad Ummie?" Miriam asked.

"Yes, I suppose I am," she replied as Miriam sat down beside her.

"Why are you sad?" Miriam asked.

"I am not sure," said her mother. "I guess I was..."

He restores my health

And when I am sick, then He restores me to health (26:80)

After Zainab had been sick for three days, her mother took her to the doctor. He said that she should continue to stay from school for the rest of the week. Then he wrote a prescription for some medicine. On the way home Zainab's mother stopped by the pharmacy and had the prescription filled.

Shukran for the Help
by nuh ibn

"Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? (26:93)

The Hassan family decided to go on a road trip. They stopped for a picnic luncheon in a provincial park. They were all tired of sitting in the van, so they ate their lunch as they walked and looked at the beautiful natural surroundings.

Mrs. Hassan took her baby to the sandbox. Mr. Hassan looked for wild berries. Ayoub and Miriam took some bread to feed the waterfowl who were swimming in the river.
