My Ramadan Celebration
In Ramadan the Muslims fast. We don't eat during the day for one month. In Somalia it is very hot during Ramadan so it is hard to fast because we feel very hot and thirsty. My mother cooks a special meal in Ramadan. My family wakes up at midnight to eat. We don't eat during the day. Sometimes I don't wake up at night to eat because I like sleeping during the night. I get hungry in the daytime. The Islamic calendar is based on the lunar year, which means that the Muslim calendar is based on the moon. When Ramadan is over, then it is Eid. In Eid we pray at the mosque. After my family is finished praying, I get five dollars from the Muslims at the mosque. Then we go home.

Together with Queen Rania of Jordan, UNICEF urges people across the world to give of their wealth to the children of Darfur, Palestine, Iraq and many more places where children are denied the basics of life like security, water and schooling.

We have put up a long list of links on our side-bar where you can donate your Zakat for this year, as well as any other charitable giving you wish to do this month.

As Ramadan prepares for its departure, and we are all still alive to make the most of it, lets all try up our efforts at giving of what we have in abundance.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was quoted Friday as saying Israelis and Palestinians have not been able to agree on a single issue in nine months of peace talks, but he promised to go on working with whomever replaces the outgoing Israeli prime minister.

Pakistani Muslims pray on the second Friday of Ramadan in Lahore September 12, 2008. Muslims around the world abstain from eating, drinking and conducting sexual relations from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar.

Ok tired of copy and pasting... look at the rest yourself. The pictures are really interesting and beautiful. Brings home what really Ramadan is in our tradition. SubhanAllah, just a happy spiritual time of sharing and reflection. I especially find it beautiful how many huge iftars/feeding of the poor that goes on. Once I told my boss at work that we have iftar every day in our mosque and she was just like could not believe it. every day i told her. and she still couldn't believe it and asked how we could afford it!

Masjid al Jame ul Anwar. The name itself contains the word "anwar" which means illuminated, a feeling best experienced in the early morning sunlight.
