Asalamualaikum wrt wb,

All praise be to Allah.

The mufti of a madhab may go against his school if he feels there is sufficient reason or evidence for it.  A good example is when Imam Abu Yusuf, the student of Abu Hanifa, led Isha one night, then after the prayer some people came and said: "Ya Imam, we found a dead animal in the well,"  which in his madhab meant their wudu's and thus their prayers were invalidated.

Imam Abu Yusuf replied, : "Well then, we are on the Madhab of my brother Imam Malik, who said, if water reaches qullatain (a quantity of water), it does not carry impurity."

And Allah knows best.

Be merciful to those on earth, and the One in the Heavens will be merciful to you.
