Asalaamu Alaikum  bro

Okay, so we were discussing in the Ramadhan Diaries Forum about how great it would be if we could have an Islamic version of Dr Seuss books for kids.

It got me thinking that with all this talent we have in the Madina, surely we could come up with a few of our own verses to inspire our children.  bro

So here’s the challenge: computer

Compose a couple of lines in the style of Dr Seuss with an Islamic theme.

Write a few verses if you’re feeling really brave!!

Rules are simple, there must be some sort of Islamic theme and it must be understandable by kids (so no great attempts at literary prizes here people!!). The rest is completely up to you.

To help you on your way, here are two that were mentioned in the forum. Author’s identities have been kept anonymous for their own safety and self dignity Wink, but personally the wackier the better I say!!

”I am um AbdelRahman, um AbdelRahman I am
I do not like dried figs and I rarely eat jam”

"It was a long long day in the month of Ramadhan
I was feeling depressed, I hadn't read any Quran
Have no fear, have no fear said my brother from Oman
I think I can hear the echoes of the Azan."

Who knows, if you guys are good, we may even be able to convince Br jaihoon’s publisher to sign us all up.  Wink

I’m awarding some bonus marks if anyone can use the following words in their little ditty:

Al Baqarah

Hajj

Makkah

Madinah

Qiyamah

Siraat

Jahannam

Jannah

Kawther

So let the rhyming begin……… bro

Say: "O ye my servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is God's earth! those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!" [39:10]

When the people will set out across the bridge of siraat
Will everyone get across, not all no
Only the ones with the best deeds will go
So before the hour comes, be good to get a head start

The thing is Dr Seuss usually has a completely nonsensical, last word in there, it's harder to think in poetic gibberish than one thinks...

Wassalaam,
PS I'm not claiming to be, poetic or even barely literate here, I do know we have some fabulous writes on this board tho, where are they??

Indeed, where are you Kathy, UmmWafi, Umm aboodi, Jannah, JustOne, timbucktu, jaihoon, nuh, Halima, a desert rose, blackrose, tq (and her kids), Faizah, Shahidah and others beside.

Remember you can always remain anonymous if you must.  Wink

Sr Fozia – I think we should get your kids to judge the entries and maybe we can think up a suitable prize for the best lines.  bro

<---not a good writer but a foolhardy one.  here goes

When Makkah became a big bad place
Out the Muslims left in a race
Looking for a more peaceful land
For every Muslim child, women and men

So they found this desert oasis
Where people are friendly and lots of peace
On earth, it is a mini Jannah
Thats the beautiful city of Madinah.

*groans* thats my feeble attempt.

I really like Umme Wafi's one actually.

I'm going to get a compilation together (get writing everyone), and print them out in large and put them up in the girls room, it will be fun for Fatima who reads and Khadeeja will like it too, she can pick out the letter K!!!

AoA,

It was a long time since I have prayed,
I think it was last year but it felt like yesterday
I went to start but I forgot how to make Wudu
I wonder if someone could help me, who knew?
Maybe next time Ill write it on my "To do"...

I wanted a car, but needed to go for Hajj
I want to get the ticket but Shaitan wont budge.
Seriously its really important to go so I must do
But I got my eye on that new Subaru.
I need another opinion, another judge.

Its been a decade since Ive thunk
about anything Islamic, I AINT no monk.
But I should start thinking about the straight Siraat.
I might go to a madrasa, to you know learn Qiraat.
But my time has passed and hope has sunk.

Alas! I heard that you can repent!
I'm gonna be super Halal, like a fancy gent'
Now I'm a Hafiz, chilling in Jannah,
I made a friend, his name is Hamzah!
So don't forget that its never too late
So regret and repent and you'll feel GREAT!!!!!

haha yeah thats my little poem.

I used to memorize every Dr. Suess book literaly.

BTW this is the infamous son of tq aka mommy aka Ami Smiley

So watcha think?

Ok I have been trying to get Dr Seus's psyche so here we go :

Tic tac toe
To Jannah I want to go
Ding dong bell
And definitely not to Hell

Swish swash swush
All evil thoughts I must flush
Flim Flam flum
To prevent me from doing haram

Clip clap clop
All evil deeds I must stop
Pam pom pim
Inshallah I will be a good Muslim

Okay...I must be more tired than I thought   Roll Eyes

For the record, I am not a poet, though I love poetry.

And although reading is one of my favourite hobbies, I have neglected it book wise.

Plus BrKhalid made it a little bit easy for non-literally, non-writers like me with the list of words.

So, here is my feeble attempt, in layman's language.  Not impressive at all.

Oh Al Baqarah, when I hear you being recited,
I feel a calmness that soothes by heart.
Even though I do not understand Arabic,
The English translation makes me understand your meaning.

My wish is that I will be among the lucky ones,
Who undertake this fifth pillar, Oh Hajj.
And that Allah wills it for me and others,
Who would love to as much.

Watching live Taraweh and Tahajud on TV,
Made me fall in love with you, Oh dear Makkah.
One day, INSHA-ALLAH, I will be among those
Lucky enough to fast, do Umrah and Hajj,
In this blessed city!

You were kind enough to welcome our Beloved Rasullah,
Oh welcoming city of Madina!
May Allah provide me with the chance
To visit his Masjid and see his footsteps!

May I be among the lucky ones
That Allah SWT will give shelter
From the sun on the day of Qiyamah
And be among those Allah SWT is pleased with.

It is the only pathway to Jannah (Paradise),
Above Jahannam.
May we perform and gather enough good deeds,
That will allow us walk on it.

Audhu Bila Jannam!
May we not have an encounter with you,
In any way.
For you are an aboard for Shaytan!

Oh Jannah!  The aboard of the righteous!
Your fragrance and tranquility how we seek!
Where there is no aging!
And no dying!

Kawther, Kawther, Kawther!
Where all those who truly believed in Allah
Will drink from only once,
And will never hunger or thirst again!

Kudos to Osman22!  Hearts off to UmmWafi and Fozia.

When he invokes Me, I am with him.

Though I didn't use the word 'Siraat' itself, it is referred to in my number six ''it is the only pathway to jannah above jahannam".

Ameen, and jazakhallah khair for the contribution Sr hajra

I thought I'd add a topical one in as well:

I was trying to learn about giving dawah with Hikma

So we could all avoid these issues of fitnah

But then my mother called up to me and said, “Make sure you eat your peas”

Sigh, all I really wanted to do was to give some sincere advice to……..

Asalaamu Alaikum  bro

Okay here's my little ditty.

I used a bit of poetic licence with some of the rhymes!!  bro

It was a long long day in the month of Ramadhan
I was feeling depressed, I hadn’t read any Quran
Have no fear, have no fear said my brother from Oman
I think I can hear the echoes of the Azan.

So off to the Masjid I ran, quick as a fox
But oh no, what’s this? I’d forgotten my socks!!
To the washroom I go, to renew my taharah
Thankfully, I just caught the end of Surah Al Baqarah

On my way home, I thirst for a drink
So I stop off at the store and start to ponder and think
All this wealth that I have, will it be a cause for lament?
Or should I go to Hajj and really repent?

I see myself there, at the standing of Arafah
Walking all that way, from the Kabah in Makkah
Everyone on a level plain, just like the day of Qiyamah
Hoping for the intercession of the beloved of Madinah

On the day the scales will be erected and I receive my book
Will I be thrown into Jahannam or will I be let off the hook?
Across the Siraat I go, I look down and oh what a fright!
Oh I beg of you Allah, oh please give me some light

To reach the end of the bridge and to look back with glee
For this we should all strive and from dunya we should flee
When the Angels call out and say enter Jannah in peace
No more drinking from Al Kawther, no, that day our thirst will cease

So there I sit, only myself do I have to blame.
Oh crikey I cry, what a shame, what a shame, what a shame.
I need to mend my ways and struggle for a Garden, so beautiful and spacious
And maybe, just maybe, one day I’ll get to see my Lord, the Most Gracious

Say: "O ye my servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is God's earth! those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!" [39:10]

Seriously, those were very good BrKhalid.  The lines flow so nicely.  Maybe it is not a bad idea to look into publishing your first muslim children book of songs.  I'd buy it.   We have lots of artists here who probably can volunteer their artistic talents.

Do it for the muslim kids out there.

Anyone have any ideas about the illustrations? What's the Islamic version of The Cat in the Hat?
