Talk of the Nation, October 28, 2008 · Throughout the campaign season false rumors have circulated that Barack Obama is a Muslim — a rumor often framed as an "accusation."

In his article, "The American Muslim Community's 'Obama' Problem," Firas Ahmed asks, "How do you root for a candidate who doesn't want you to root for him? ... At a time when endorsements are worn like badges of honor, no major candidate is looking for the Muslim vote."

Muslim Americans weigh in on the 2008 campaign season and how the candidates have — or have not — reached out to their communities.

Guests

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim-American congressman in the United States

Firas Ahmad, essayist, author of "The American Muslim Community's 'Obama' Problem" published in Islamica Magazine

Andrea Elliott, reporter for The New York Times
