salam,

we have a very old cat who is blind now and not eating very well and is suffering we have been advised by the rspca to put the cat out of its misery what does islam say... she is in a very bad way.

All praise be to Allah.


I asked one of the scholars a similar question regarding a cat that had been injured by a car, and he replied:


If the animal is near death, then there is no harm in that.  However, if left alone, it would survive, then it is not permissible.


I followed his advice and left the cat to manage on its own, and surprisingly it survived.  SubhanAllah, perhaps this is a reminder that it is Allah who provides for all living creatures, not us.


And Allah knows best.
