Not many know that the philosopher/mathematician Bertrand Russell also wrote a few short stories. Way back in the mid sixties, I came across this small collection by the title of the topic here. It included a short story by the same name. I was so impressed by the quality of the writing and the content, that I bought it. I sent it to my brothers, and from there it was lost, perhaps in the upheavel of 1971.
Russell was an atheist, and his stories reflect that, but he was also a humanist. What is noteworthy is that despite being a philosopher and a mathematician he wrote such beautiful stories.
