peace be upon you

The destruction of Pompeii, Herculaneum and nearby towns by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE, is an illuminating subject. The towns have been preserved, together with the inhabitants in various stages. These were prosperous towns, and the inhabitants led decadent lives. The BBC did a 5 part fictional based on archeological evidence. I have found another video of 53 minutes duration which gives some idea of the evidence and the methods involved in the deductions made about the destruction.
