Girl burnt alive in Ghaziabad over suspected affair

24 Mar 2009, 0943 hrs IST, Lalit Kumar, TNN

GHAZIABAD: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly burnt alive, on Monday afternoon, by four residents of her village in a case of "aggressive moral policing," as they suspected she had a physical relationship with one Irfan of the village.

The girl later succumbed to her injuries in a Modinagar hospital.

According to district police chief, Akhil Kumar, Zalis, Asim, Azim and another village resident had been keeping a watch on the girl's house, in Teori village, in the Bhojpur police station area. They thought one Irfan of the village was a frequent visitor to the girl's house when her father was not at work.

"In the afternoon," said Kumar, "the four young men came to the girl's house, and demanded to know why Irfan allegedly frequently visited her house. The girl's younger sister, who felt the visitors were getting violent, ran out of the house. Meanwhile, the accused beat up the girl, and then set her on fire with a kerosene oil. The oil was poured on her from a bottle that lay in her house."

Police have launched a hunt for the accused, after the victim made a dying statement saying they had beat and set her on fire.

Wassalaam

And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright. Surah 2  Verse 186

CNN-IBN

SHAMELESS HORROR: All the four accused are absconding and search for them is on.
Ghaziabad: In another shocking incident in the National Capital Region (NCR), a teenage girl was set ablaze by four men after she resisted their attempts to rape her.

Sixteen-year-old Shabana was at home when the men allegedly barged into her house in Ghaziabad's Bhojpur locality and tried forcing themselves on her.

When her sister tried to help her, they men beat her up too.

Following the screams of the girl, the men poured kerosene on her to vent their frustration.

All the four accused are absconding and search for them is on.

baseless story

Submitted by peeyush on March 24, 2009 - 19:47.
I would dlike to draw you attention towards the incorrect facts written in the story:

1. There is no question of the culprits being termed as muslims,

2. One of the three culprits was not a muslim, while the other three were,

3. There is no question of quoting Muslim laws and rituals just to make the story spicy,

4. Get the names of the four men correct. They were Mohammed Hashim, Mohammed Arif and Jalees Ahmed,

5. Irfan used to frequent girl's house as he used to teach her carpet-weaving. Family denies any sort of affair with Irfan as his coming home was in their knowledge. Just don't put allegations over the girl linking it to an affair,

6. Her younger sister Afsana Hakim (12) did not fled teh spot. It was due to her intervention that the four men fled the spot,

7. Imrana did not die in morning. She died Monday evening at 5.45 PM at Khan Nursing home at Hapur and not at Modinagar,

The writer of the story has deviated from the facts and the true sense of journalism. In such a gruesome incident reported, please get the facts right and just don't write if you do not have the facts.

Sitting in ivory towers and writing a story does not make a good journalist. The story should not have been published at all. It sends a wrong message regarding true sense of journalism.

Thanks,
