A reminder on how Allah (swt) is testing his believers... how can you not cry when you read something like this?

Orphanage makes Chinese of Uyghur Muslim children

(, May 26, 2009) — The Uyghur Muslim Children at the Urumchi Welfare Institution for Abandoned Children in Xinjiang have their names replaced with Chinese names and are being forced to eat pork and dog meat forbidden by their religion, reported Radio Free Asia online (Washington) May 22. “At least 10 of their names and file details were all changed to Chinese,” it quoted Amangul, a former teacher at the orphanage as saying.

“We use only the Chinese language here, and we rename Uyghur children with Chinese names in the case of those who have no family records,” the report quoted an employee as the orphanage as saying on phone. The orphanage was home to around 400 children, most of them Chinese children. The employee had said most of the Uyghur children had their parents in jail for political offenses.

Name change and Chinese language use is, however, only the least repressive part of the treatment of the Uyghur children. A girl named Arzigul, 10, whose name was changed to Li Li, was disciplined for refusing to eat pork and dog meat served to her. “(S)he was criticized, not allowed to talk to the other Uyghur children or Uyghur teachers, forced her to use her Chinese name Li Li, punished without food, and put in solitary confinement for two days,” Amangul was quoted as saying.

She has said children were also frequently transferred to foster homes in other parts of China, where they lived in a Han Chinese environment, and were fed pork and dog meat as part of their diet.

All the seven cooks at the orphanage were Chinese and the stray few Uyghurs working there have been punished for urging sensitivity to the religious sentiments of the Muslim orphans.
