As-salam-mu-alaikum,

I am attaching some pictures from our company's Eid Party. Over 300 people showed up, including about 240 in the first 30 minutes...

Caption: Cakes from Costco just arrived! (These are 1/2 slab, 48 (2"x2") slices cakes each - These cakes were started at 5 am, and they were still not ready at 10 am! That's how fresh these cakes are!)

Caption: We are in the final stages... We get about 75 servings ready before the 11:30 am rush. Since everyone knows about the Eid celebrations, we get about 10 people / minute wanting. So this table would be gone in about 2-3 minutes!

Each plate has a samosa, slice of cake, a baklava, and a fork. At the centre/center of the table, we have the "green" sauce and the "red" sauce for the samosa, and we dispense napkins and "custom" orders for those who have special needs (diabetics, etc..)

This is our assembly line ... get the plate prepared as people are taking them...this was not a joke, we had to prepare food at a rate of 10/plates a minute to make sure no one was waiting...

And people loved it. Most of the time we wait in line during these types of events...by dispensing the food, everyone relaxed and enjoyed the food

As-salam-mu-alaikum, Sister Jannah,

Our company is actually the Canadian wing of a huge multibillion dollar US corporation. The Muslims represent about 0.7% of the total Canadian workforce, which is very small compared to most companies in our area.

The party was so fun.. people came up to us and said happy eid or Eid Mubarak...

Wa-alaikum-as-salam Br. Khalid,

A classic Br. Khalid question Smiley

People loved it. We did these three items because you can hit the entire population:
Vegeterian samosas for the vegetarians and diabetics
Baklavas for the sweet tooth
Cake for those who are allergic to cumin or curry (in the samosa), or too scared to try something exotic

This is the second year we are doing it (I joined this place about 18 months ago...) Last year, we got a special thank you letter from the directors and gifts from the HR and Operations VP, the value of the gifts almost equalled the money each one of us put in.

This year,  the program ran so well, that many people thought it was sponsored and organized by the company!! Some non-muslim directors even asked us to approach the senior executives for sponsorship! What made it special was that we had a lot more people helping and different people took shifts to help. The burden to do a job well done was spread across many people, and we had a good time. The rest of the year we are in our own departments doing our own thing, so really we meet other Muslims outside our departments only in the hallways or during this Eid...

The funny thing is that this triggered the first company wide Diwali party, organized by the 6% of the company that is hindu (yeah, nearly 10x more), yet, their event wasn't as good as ours Smiley

As-salam-mu-alaikum.

I just wanted to provide an update from our Company Eid Party Celebrations we had last month!

The 15 of us who participated in organizing our companies Eid Party last month got called to the Executive Boardroom this morning where the CEO and room full of VPs thanked us for hosting the company's second Annual Eid Party at work and for promoting diversity in the workplace. They said it was so well organized that they wanted to ask us to help run future company parties and programs!

In addition, they presented each of us with a thank you card... and a mastercard giftcard worth $50 Canadian FOR EACH OF US!!! (Just shy of $49 US!!!)  This is incredible! This is way more than each of us spent on the party...and we did it for Allah (swt), and now we are getting more rewards in the duniya  from the postive dawah, having jobs, and now the gift, and finally at least 6 of us got promoted or moved into new roles since the beginning of Ramadaan!!

Wa-alaikum-as-salam,

 thobebro

salaam Br. UBAB - 1. Ma'sha'allah what a great party, Yes, the samosas looked gooooooooooooooood Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy and 2. What  a great result in so many ways - so great to hear it turned out well and that was so appreciated by all those who participated! This is something that should be emulated throughout North America insha'allah. Sounds like you have a good thing going there and may the following years' gatherings be even more successful. Ameen

Alhamdulillah it really goes to show that sometimes we can do something relatively small, but if we have true sincerity in what we’re doing, the results can be far reaching and wide.

InshaAllah this will inspire others in their own work environments.

Salaam, and mashaAllah! May Allah make the company Eid party a bigger and bigger success each year. To have top level folks come is a big deal. Mabrouk!

My husband and his  also have an annual Ramadan dinner (at a large US company with only two letters), and let's just say they now have to put people on a waiting list (75% seem to be nonMuslims). CEOs and all, mashaAllah.

I highly recommend Muslims get together and ask their HR for similar events. You'll have to arrange it, maybe even pay for most of the expenses at first (the bigger the group, the better, and spouses will help. And choose the best ethnic food, decor, and best desserts available). Eventually, HR will see it's a big deal, and will help sponsor (or give funding if they do that for other groups), inshaAllah. Also, choose a charismatic speaker to keep the event interesting and the people informed (they even had an Islam Quiz with prizes for winners).

And what a great da'wah opp!

"My Lord! Increase me in knowledge." (Qur'aan 20.114)
"Our Lord! We believe, so forgive us, and have mercy on us, for You are the Best of all who show mercy!" (23:109)
"And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves..."(3:10)
