Assalam alaikom,

Sweet sis, I do not know what you are going through, but I am sure most of us have issues like this. For myself, I have felt numb in my heart, not with Allah, just with life. Loss of love for life. Your relationship with Allah is between you and Allah. I can say when I was feeling this way, the thing that helped most was saying dhikr.

You feel afraid because you have taqwa, the thought of being far from Allah is dreadful for you. However, you feel dead inside so it brings about other insecurities.

My advise sister is reflect on Allah. Reflection is the lamp of the heart; if it departs the heart will have no light. Ali, may Allah ennoble his face, has said " There is no worship like reflection". It really does soften the heart. It was the one thing that sincerely helped me. "An hour's reflection is better that a year's worship" Reflection helps fill the heart with love for Allah. Once you work on the inward the outward will change too.. Inshallah Our Prophet (saaw) used to say "O Allah! Make my inward better than my outward and make my outward virtuous."

I hope I was able to help. There is also a good lecture and book called the Poor Man's Book of Assistance. I found it inspiring and helpful. If you are interested and can't find it.. let me know I will get you a copy. Inshallah.

You are in my prayers sis, if you need anything, just to talk PLZ feel free to do so. May Allah ease your burdens and soften your heart.

With Love,
Christine.

Asalamualaikum wrt wb,

All praise be to Allah.

You may wish to refer to Imam al-Ghazali's works from his Ihyaa, they are very beneficial.  You can find them online.

And Allah knows best.

Be merciful to those on earth, and the One in the Heavens will be merciful to you.
