salaams,

Although this program is now in it's third series here, I thought I'd post about it on the board.  Larkrise to Candleford is a beautiful slice of turn of the century England comparing the poverty of a country hamlet with it's neighbouring small town.  Another brilliant BBC adaptation - fans of their previous ones will love this (particularly you sister jannah  Smiley ).

In the UK we luckily have the bbc iplayer which means that if you miss an episode (which I always do as my husband would NEVER watch this show with me) you can watch it online for up to 21 days or something, or download it and watch within 30 days.  However I'm sure the 2 previous seasons are available in public libraries in the US.

Here's a website as an introduction http://www.larkrisetocandleford.com/

The Mystery of Edwin Drood

This is playing right now on PBS. I thought it would be pretty dark, being Dickens, but it's slightly more about romantic entanglements/obsessions.  (Yeah all the guys are in love with the same pretty little blonde girl sigh!) I also never thought I'd ever see Desi characters in a Dickens drama!! I couldn't really understand the plot so I had to check out Wikipedia. It definitely gets better as it goes along. All in all not so bad.
