Assalam alaikom,

Hey guys, I have an odd question. I was admiring everyone who is fasting this year as it is a long fast. But then I was thinking.. OMG what about places like Alaska? Then it dawned on me, when Ramadan is in June, northern Alaska will have 24 hours of sunlight. (Sun is up from May 15 to July 28) How does Islam answer a place like this? Surely they can not fast 30 days straight. Also, when Ramadan is in the winter they have darkness. (Sun is down from Nov. 25 to Jan. 18) Just sparked my ever growing curiousity.

So when fasting is tough, I guess be happy you don't live in Alaska

(Places with long fasts in Alaska, just for info and things to ponder)

I believe in Islam like the sun rising, not because I see it but because by it, I see everything else.

ws,

According to http://www.alaskamasjid.com/ramadan.php they are fasting according to Makkah time Smiley This is one of the choices. They can either 1. Go with Makkah time or 2. Go with a city nearby with the most 'reasonable' times.
