I tend to only use vegetarian handmade fresh products on my family. I use Lush  products pretty much exclusively.

I've also found taking star flower supplements has given me the most gorgeous shiny hair ever, and my skins clear, and nails dont break, my nails used to split really badly before. Alhumdulillah!

LOVE URBAN DECAY!

I also found this new lip stain by covergirl, I am actually loving it. It gives such a natural stain to your lips, doesn't kiss off on hubby or leave a mark on your cups. Not that cakey paint feel either... EWWWW.

Once a month when I am in the shower I use sugar and liquid Dove or Oil of Olay soap. I mix it making a paste and rub it all over. It exfolates without harsh chemicals and the moisturizer in the Dove or Oil of Olay makes your skin silk smooth. Safe to use EVERYWHERE  Embarrassed so you can be super soft to the touch.

Salams,

I keep meaning to post in here, but keep forgetting. I'd like to compile a top 10 beauty products list sometime, maybe put it on the blog too... but for now here are some really good resources.

First this cosmetics database will tell you how toxic the stuff you use everyday is. Its seriously scary, type in some stuff u use everyday:
http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/browse.php?maincat=skincare

Then I will add two girls on youtube who do some awesome makeup/hijab style tutorials:

http://www.youtube.com/user/MakeupAdikt

http://www.youtube.com/user/amenakin

LOVE them!! They are so cute mashaAllah.

Cleaning alchohol is different from the drinking stuff.

Also when one goes in for an operation the area is first cleaned with alcohol, so I would assume it's acceptable.

On the flip side, alcohol has very drying properties, I avoid alcohol based cleansers not good for the skin, mind you I'm prolly older than you so your skin can ping back into the fabulous condition it's in already...me not so much oldshaykh

as salaamu alaykum,

I have a friend who has really lovely skin, mashaAllah, and she uses Alba products:
http://www.albabotanica.com/?title=Hawaiian

I bought the Aloe and Green Tea oil free moisturizer for about $15 (http://www.albabotanica.com/?id=322&pid=371).

The line of products is nice because they are all vegetarian with no animal by-products (which makes life easier for those who follow the Shafi'i madhab).  The moisturizer is nice, but not as creamy as I would have liked (seems more oil-based) and it doesn't moisturize *enough* for me (which is a problem I've had with other products, like the Aveeno moisturizer... I have extremely dry skin).  Any suggestions about that?

Assalamu Alaikum,

Sister Seven, I have extremely dry skin too. In winters a face massage of Olive oil works for me. I did it today and am liking my skin. Smiley Try doing it once a week or so. And share some of your tips with me too. I have to buy loads of lotions and creams year around. Sad

Assalamualaikum,

Due to the dry winter weather, my face gets really dry. So dry, my skin peels. My friend recommended Vichy for extremely dry skin. And alhamdulillah, tried it since Oct, and I hv seen improvements alhamdulillah. But then again, this year, we are having a mild winter. We have not reached -20 degrees celcius yet.

We have had very cold weather quite early on this year so the heating has gone on earlier.

What I do is use bio-oil all over straight after I have a bath, and on my face I use vitamin e oil neat. Its seems to do the trick alhumdulillah as my arms were getting really dry and itchy, and my eyelids were also getting flaky and dry (gosh I'm attractive!), alhumdulillah my skin has gone back to normal again.

Dry skin is so uncomfortable!

Morroccan oil is amazing. I dont usually use oil in my hair, but this stuff you spritz on a tiny bit after washing your hair while it's still damp.

It de tangles, gives hair an amazing shine, absorbs really well so doesn't feel sticky or yucky & smells divine!!! I have salon gorgeous hair under my hijaab...... Obviously because I'm worth it  Wink

ohhhh! Salaam alaikum everyone Cheesy

Okay I've tried the cover girl lipstain and it didn't work for me for some reason :| and I think after a week it was all gone :| either someone else (prob sisters) used it or it dried up.

I really like the E.L.F lipglosses (They have them at Target for a dollar as well [I like the dollar ones better]) >>http://www.eyeslipsface.com/elf/lips/gloss/hypershine_gloss

E.L.F also has the "Lucisou Liquid Lipstick" which I really like. I have the "Pink Lemonade" color.

Okay I bought the "I love juicy" Lush shampoo recently and I am not sure what I think. It's suppose to be for greasy hair ..has anyone tried it before ?  I am trying to limit the amount of times I wash my hair. I also purchased Dry shampoo from oscar blandi but I am thinking I might exchange it (sephora exchanges!) for Ojon, as I've heard (only two ppl, sephora employees) that Ojon works better. Has anyone tried dry shampoo? lol

Also has anyone tried the masks from Lush? I have the Cosmetic warrior one, I love how it feels... It contains blueberries and so the mask is blue and makes me feel like an avatar... nicer than youd think!

I have heard of Morroccan oil being amazing and now I pinch myself for not purchasing it! do you have dry hair fozia or oily hair? Because usually I use oil before I wash it ... Also I've heard olive oil is really good for hair ...and to help those ppl who have trouble washing oil out of their hair (me)..I've read putting cornstarch in your hair before hand helps wash out the oil and guess what dry shampoo contains! Cornstarch Cheesy

oh and I've heard good things about kiehls but never tried it myself...I was looking at the shampoos but I can't figure out if they use animal byproducts (I personally go towards very natural stuff ..thus why I am trying Lush).

and I can't put vitamin E on my face as I think my face is oily enough, but I do put it on my cuticles .. and it helps with the lack of moisture.

I use Lush products predominantly.

On my hair I tend to use Big (because I love its smell, and the bits of salt in it.). I use I love juicy on my youngest daughters hair and it works just fine, her hair is strange, it's a mix of black and indian hair (a throw back I think from somewhere along the generations), it also smells divine. I also use American cream conditioner in my own hair, it's works beautifully.

Morrocan oil, actually is not oily, a very bizarre thing to say I know, but it really isn't, you spritz a little on and it absorbs in to the hair, so when the hair dries it's shiny without being greasy. My hair is neither greasy nor dry normally, but Morrocan oil works beautifully with it.
I totally agree with Sr Siham, I love Morrrocan oil, I feel sad I didn't find it sooner....

I've used Lush face maks too, my only grpe is they run out very fast, they're expensive and they really work, but you have ot use thme fast. So I just save up all the little black ocntainers and get free face masks isntead (god I'm so desi at times Tongue)

just a note that moroccan oil is made in israel.  i don't like buying goods made there, so i don't use it.

the key ingredient in that product is called "argen oil" extracted from argen trees which grow in morocco.

there are other products which have argen oil. look for those instead.
