Personally, I think this sucks, to be it lightly. Also, it's been something always in the back of my mind, not only because my family is mostly Indian, but my cousin brothers and sisters, when I was younger, would never fail to remind me that it occurred on a day otherwise known for a happy occasion - my birth -BABA.
lol..good way of giving away your birthday
It's perhaps the only thing they could do to prevent riots/all out war. But why give 2/3 to hindus??? half and half seems like a better division. And they should have created a committee of 'interfaith' minded people to actually build it to make sure it includes stuff for both. If only to show that people can live and worship together in peace, especially in such a religiously diverse place such as india.
Well, they're gonna file another petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the High Court order so you can be assured that actual possession is not gonna take place for another decade or two or maybe more..Allahualam
Coming to the verdict, yes, this was one of two ways to prevent rioting because if it had gone to the Muslims then there would've been a high chance of another massacre.
And 2/3 and 1/3 is just a delusion..the whole 2.7 acre piece of land has been declared "Ram Janmabhoomi" out of which the Wakf Board will get 1/3.
Interfaith committees are a rarity in India.I live in Hyderabad and I've never heard about such a concept here. The reason behind it is the mass fragmentation and politicization of every fragment of the society.Add on corruption and red tape to that and you get one big society where the general public is either scared of taking an initiative or doesn't want to get itself into a swampy rut.
The educated people of urban India don't really care what happens. The Indian general election is considered the biggest exercise of democratic franchise in the world but the western world doesn't know what happens within it.Last time there was a constituency in Mumbai which recorded a near 0% voter turnout.People who lived there said they didn't vote coz no matter who wins, everything is still gonna be the same.
So,the point is that this verdict doesn't really matter to most people..its just the politicians who've kept this issue in the limelight to use it as a platform to fulfill their political aspirations. The sad part is that they have the support of the illiterate rural people who think of these politicians as their saviors. And the rural people are the majority which makes it all the more worse.
I'll stop here lest this turns into a rant..lol
Nonetheless,I had a really nice time today
..public life ground to a halt due to fear of rioting and stuff.
While my mum and siblings were busy watching the news I chose to live in oblivion and peace.Made myself some pakoras and happily munched away while watching a movie
.After the verdict, everybody came downstairs so I went up and had some really deserving sleep
.All this when the rest of the country was up and alert..lol
