Please share... How do you get through your down days?

I've been feeling very overwhelmed lately... Any suggestions would be welcome...

I mean practically, do you have help around the house, time away from the babies for you? You've just had a baby and have a toddler, thats overwhelming for anyone.

The way I get over the blues is I pray nafl salat alot, I do dhikr a lot, I ask everyone to remember me in their duas.

And I eat chocolate, and give myself a break, I forget the house work, forget about anything non essential.

I talk with my friends who tell me how wonderful I am and how much they love me, and who listen to me talking about nothing in general for hours on end.


And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright. Surah 2  Verse 186

Asalaamu Alaikum bro

Perhaps not directly related to the question but a good idea generally is to vary our ibadah in terms of how 'heavy' it is.

There are sometimes when we are completely focused and it's physically and spiritually draining because we put so much effort in.

Other times we can maybe read a 'lighter' book or a few hadiths around a subject just to pass the time but in a non heedless way.

There's probably some wisdom in varying 'what' we do but also in varying 'how' we do it *especially* in times when we feel overwhelmed.

Our nafs loves to gravitate to extremes in both obedience and deviance such that we become overwhelmed.

We have to learn (sometimes by trial and error) how to maintain a just equilibrium.

Just a few thoughts.....

PS If all else fails download that angry birds app on the iPhone and say bismillah every time you take a shot. You'll be amazed how much dhikr you'll make playing that game!!! Wink

I usually remind myself.. This too shall pass. Nothing lasts forever, especially hard times.

If I am feeling overwhelmed with kids, I ask for more help or make some mommy time. I give the kids a task like coloring or painting or a favorite movie, something that will keep them focused so I can have a few moments to take some deep breathes. I learned some self-hypnosis to help during childbirth and if I am feeling really stressed I use the breathing and it really helps.

Though Haram, I also listen to music, it calms me and relaxes me. Classical stuff or even sounds of the ocean and forest.

I also do Du'a and Dhikr. If I feel frustrated I stop and go make wudu and it helps. When my kids fight and argue, I make them go do wudu... it really does help.

If Islam is making me feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and realize I am pushing myself to hard.. again. I have to agree 100% with the nafs loving the extremes. For me this is a constant battle that can be very draining.

salaaam sister.we as human go through these emotions.just one of those days."after every hardship there comes ease".thats out of my favourite book.its called DONT BE SAD.i recommend this to everyone.male or female.plz read this book every one.you can thank me later.plz remember in youre prayers
