THE LIGHT OF THE HEART: FINDING THE PORT IN OUR STORM

Friday, May 20th @ 6:30pm

Location: Ottawa U

Registration: 2$ or donation for the Sadaqa Food Bank

In times of political turmoil and violence, uprisings and conflict, environmental degradation and economic downturn, secular humanism and the domination of technology in our lives – how may we develop and maintain a deep spiritual connection with Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)? How may we seek spiritual illumination in times of darkness and turbulence? How can our individual efforts to improve our personal states with Allah contribute to a greater revival in the state of the Muslim ummah, and to improving the state of humanity?

Weekend WORKSHOP, Day 1: Finding the Light: The Barriers Within Me

Saturday, May 21st @ 10-4pm

Location: Ottawa U (registration required)

Registration: 20$ (for 2-day workshop)

How can we attain a purified, illuminated heart and a refined character? Tazkiyat al-nafs, or purification of the self, is an important Islamic science which discusses how to identify and cure the spiritual ailments in our heart – such as greed, arrogance and selfishness – which prevent us from experiencing true happiness. Through tazkiya, we also learn how to embellish the heart with beautiful attributes such as sincerity, love and reliance on Allah.

Day 1 of the weekend workshop will cover essential principles of tazkiya, and how each of us can apply these principles to develop a deep connection with Allah.

Weekend WorkSHOP, Day 2: Walking His Way: Be a Light unto Others

Sunday, May 22nd @ 10-3pm

Location: Ottawa U (registration required)

In seeking to engage the world with clarity and purpose, we will certainly be challenged in our interactions with others. How can we live and apply the principles of tazkiya in our day-to-day lives, with our spouses and families, at home and at work, and in our communities? How does the increasing incidence of marital conflict and divorce in our communities and the conflicts in and between our Muslim organizations reflect the need for tazkiya? How can introspective and personal efforts to improve our state of heart improve our interpersonal relationships and wider communal dynamics?

Day 2 of the weekend workshop will dicuss how our introspective and personal efforts to improve our state of heart also improve our interpersonal relationships and wider communal dynamics.

Monday Seminar - The Caravan of Illuminated Souls:  Let’s meet at al-Kawthar

Monday, May 23rd @ 11-3pm

Gatineau Masjid (4 rue lois, Gatineau)

“None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his family, his wealth and all the people” (Bukhari). Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is described in the Qur’aan as “a light” and “an illuminating lamp”. He is our guide to Allah, and it is only by recognizing the beauty of His light and seeking the protection of following in His footsteps that we can safely traverse the path to the next life. How can we develop a deep love and attachment to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)? How can we join the caravan of those that seek Allah's pleasure and satisfaction; that we may have the honour of meeting Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) in our true home, Jannah?

It's on now. Sound is working now too. I think they just started late with some technical difficulties, but now good!
