Thought this was an interesting story. Very brave to continue on in the face of cultural pressures.
A man from rural India develops a machine to efficiently and cheaply produce sanitary pads, which can be cost prohibitive for so many families. He was passionate about the research and design (so much so that he carried around a football bladder full of goat blood to test absorption rates of his new products)! Even his wife thought he was crazy! A great story about public health, cultural taboos, engineering, and gender relations.http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26260978
