Asalaamu Alaikum  bro

Can't say I know too much about this event but it's been going for a couple of years now and they have Yusuf Islam and Native Deen plus other unannounced artists coming down for the award ceremony.

More information contained in the email below if anyone is interested.

Al Mahabba Awards is an annual event that seeks to promote and reward artistic expressions of love and appreciation for the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him).

The awards are to give tribute to dedicated men and women whose contributions make a positive difference and exceptionally serve love and passion to our Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) and his genius personality in the following categories:

Songs & Video Clips.
Advertisements (TV& Print).
Documentaries & TV Programs.
Films (Long, Short & Cartoons).
Books (Adults & Children).
Drawings (Freehand & Computer Aided).
Media Channels (Satellite Channels, Radio Stations, Newspapers, Magazines & Websites).
Personality of the year: for an individual or organization that stepped out of their way to make something stemming from their love of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Epic Award: for an event that made a significant impact on the masses in their love for the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Merit, excellence, and masterwork alone are the criteria for selection in each category. The event will be recognized in a magnificent, dynamic, and ‘attractive-to- youth’ festival that competes with international events and will be broadcasted through different media channels.

The Awards’ arbitration committee will evaluate all the submitted works. The committee is headed by Dr. Abdal-Hakim Murad, the Secretary of the Muslim Academic Trust, a doctoral student at Cambridge University and a broadcaster of Islam and Islamic issues.

In the present time, we would be pleased to receive any of your productions related to Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) that you recommend for the 2008 awards nomination in any of the above categories. Participants shall send their works up to midnight (GMT) of February 20th, 2008, The 2008 Al Mahabba Awards Festival and Prizegiving will take place in Abu Dhabi, UAE between the 17th and the 19th of April 2008.

We will use all the opportunities we can to keep you up to date as we proceed. In case you may have any question, we will be pleased to discuss it with you.

Look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Yours Sincerely

I think this is a great idea! It really encourages and recognizes creative projects that are in praise of the prophet saw. How nice to see after the whole Danish cartoons have been reprinted "to emphasize their stance of freedom of the press". I mean how low can people get. Why don't they publish some heretical stuff about their own national religion to prove their point?  Anyways hope you can attend Brkhalid sounds like fun!!
