I am a fairly recent revert and I have this question.  I attend a 12 step program for an addiction that I have.  alhamdullilah, I have been clean and sober for almost a year now.  But the meetings are almost always in churches.  Is this halal?

Walaikum salaam,

Sorry again! I did get a response to this question. Basically the answer depends on if this 12 step program is faith based or secular in nature. I think some of these programs are very intertwined with "faith in Jesus", and the Bible, etc. Obviously many churches have these programs there to encourage people back into their religion. So if it's a program like that, it's better to find one elsewhere that's less proselytizing. If it's not like that and it's helping you, the shaikh said it would be OK as wisdom and help can come from many places.

and Allah knows best.
