Assalamu'alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu,

As you may have heard from the news, more than 13 million people across East Africa are facing the worst drought in 60 years. Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia are among the countries hardest hit by food and water shortages. Crops, livestock and homes have been completely destroyed. Without water, crops have failed, livestock has died and food prices are too high. People cannot afford the basic food supplies they need to survive. With malnutrition already over 20% in the region, aid agencies now estimate about $150 million is needed in aid to begin to alleviate the suffering in the region.

In light of the recent flood emergency, proceeds from this event will also benefit relief to Pakistan. Some of the same regions of Pakistan that were devastated by floods in the summer of 2010 are under water once again in September 2011 amid another round of monsoon rains.
As the flooding has intensified in recent days, families have again been forced from their homes and left searching for temporary shelter. Sindh—heavily damaged last year—is the area hardest hit by the current flooding, with nearly the entire province covered in water. Parts of Balochistan Province also are underwater.

In regards to these situations, Islamic Relief (a non-profit humanitarian organization) is hosting an upcoming event at the MCC hall, to help contribute to the people of East Africa. This event will be held on October 9th, at ICCD Masjid. There will be

- entertainment; with performances by Native Deen,
-and food which will be served for dinner.

Tickets are:
-$25 per person
-$10 for babysitting

Please come help support the cause, and invite your friends and family to give support insha'Allah.

"Every small step goes a long way."

UPDATE!! This will be on the 22nd Sat and:

Good news, Islamic Relief has decided to make this event FREE for everyone to attend! We want to have as many people as possible to support this important cause, so there will no longer be a $25 charge for tickets. Again, Native Deen will be performing and dinner will be provided. If the admission charge was holding you back from coming, you have no excuse now! Please do your best to attend this Saturday and bring a friend!
