Asalaamu Alaikum bro

So we wondering in chat what life would be like in 2022?

What do you think will be invented by then and how will society change? For better or worse?

Anyone have any predictions? We can save them and then share ten years from now Wink

Say: "O ye my servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is God's earth! those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!" [39:10]

I think in 10 years time the population will have grown so much, the resources will be so overused and scarce, and the general "selfishness" of people will have increased so much that the world will not be a very nice place to live in. I think life is just going to get harder and harder, and people will struggle to find goodness within themselves and others.

Im sorry im not morbid or pessemistic, its just how I feel. I do think somehow we are getting closer and closer to the Day of Judgement seeing how everything is now.

Salams,

Dude did you guys know I wrote a post like 5 years ago that predicted the iphone!! No joke. I can't find it right now but we were talking about this future stuff. I really think apple should send me a free iphone just for that don't u?? Wink

Anyways here's my new predictions...I think 10 years is really not enough, when you think back to 2001 how much has really changed? Things are kinda the same but different, but over greater amounts of time you can see whole shifts of things. So I'll say like 25 yearsish:

- Everyone will have a "phone" that will have "everything" in it. They'll use it to buy stuff, unlock their car/house door, communicate with someone, do live video, their medical records, passport. Like everything.

- The world will become a true global village. People will move around alot and will intermarry all over the place. No one will live in a place more than 5 years.

- The death of the middle class will give rise to extreme poor and extreme rich.

- There will be a major going green/back to the basics movement. People will want to go back to growing their own food, living a simple agricultural life away from technology.

- Meanwhile farms and greenspaces/lake front and river fronts will be almost gone. Only the very rich will have access to these. Food will be all processed. Real things like real apples from real trees outside will be very rare and expensive.

- There will be more major storms, crazy snow in summer, very hot in winter. More earthquakes too.

- Wars will be fought over who owns what on the internet and information will become the premium resource not oil/money.

- Muslims will grow in number and organization but the Islamophobia movement will grow too and will always be one step ahead.

- There won't be any real stores left. Everyone will just order stuff on the internet and it'll be delivered.

- Everything will be on the "cloud". No need for CDs, DVDs discs, camera or video datacards or harddrives anymore.

- Things like real books, art, beautiful craftsmen type things will be a premium and only be owned by antiques collectors.

and lastly I predict

- that things will get really bad economically/socially the world over with many extremes until we all hit rock bottom. Then we will turn from a dystopic worldview to a more positive, almost socialist one, trying to become utopic societies. This will last for a generation or two until it goes back to war/fighting over resources again.

Oh and for the Madina I predict

- things will probably be the same (including the same chat lol) and it'll just be me hobbling around posting something every so often in between my sitting on the porch rocking chair and yelling at the young whippernsappers (british spelling). oldshaykh

K the end Smiley

PS Would love to hear more of people's predictions, especially as it relates to us  Grin

as salaamu alaykum,

subhanAllah Jannah - I can totally see that happening.  I don't really know how much further we can go into extreme materialism and inordinate displays of wealth with man-made islands, ridiculously tall buildings, multi-thousand dollar dresses when others are starving.  I love the idea of people turning away from all that and returning 'to the earth'.  I think that's already starting to happen somewhat - I just read about this interesting wedding in the NYT, where they had some of these great thinkers from TED talking about a trend of encouraging people towards a "luxury of less" and giving up a life of 'stuff' and materialism: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/18/nyregion/a-wedding-as-a-festival-of-ideas-and-self-promotion.html?_r=2&hp

Here are some other things I think may happen in the future, good and bad.  I let my imagination run a little wild so forgive me for the craziness...

- The metrosexual trend for men will combine with the sickly-thin model image for women and androgynous models (neither male or female with no distinctive characteristics of each) will become all the rage.  It'll become cool not to 'limit yourself' to a gender and clothes (and everything else) will become unisex and gender neutral.  This will be followed by a period where people will "take back" their femininity or masculinity and go to extremes with it, with women wearing corsets, men with actual beards and hair on their body and top hats etc.  Finally society will begin to accept three genders and people will choose between male, female, or gender neutral.

- The department of pre-crime will finally officially open its doors and it will be acceptable for people to be punished for their thoughts.*  Governments will seek to be all pervasive and all-knowing and will be riddled with corruption until underground groups form as 'justice seekers'.  However once in power they too will be corrupt and we will have to be saved from the 'saviors'.  in the end each family and community will fend for themselves just like the wild west or the tribal bedouins.

- The internet will be free for all but only under the all pervasive eye of the government.  People will find ways to work underground however and will eventually make the government's efforts at surveillance and control over the internet futile, making it a real and true arena for freedom of expression.

- The U.S. and Europe will put a population cap on Muslims (only one child per family) out of concern that they will soon outnumber non-Muslims in those lands.  This however does not hold back the tides, as huge numbers convert to Islam including members of royalty in various European countries. The economic system, already in ruins, is replaced with a fairer usury-free system based on Islamic principles of economics and wealth distribution.

- We will deplete all natural resources and food will be mass-manufactured and made entirely of chemical byproducts or soy.  Only the very rich will have the luxury of eating real vegetables, meat, etc. cooked by an actual person.  (Have to admit I've seen this one in many futuristic books/movies)

- Oil will run out, and the Gulf Arab countries will return to simple bedouin life.  Their shopping malls, high-rise buildings and luxurious palaces will be abandoned and seen as relics of another time.  People will pass by them, and occasionally take shelter in them with their camels and exclaim at the israaf of the people who came before them.

- There will be people who realize the meaninglessness of materialism and leave everything to wander the earth in search of spiritual truths. These "Seekers" will be considered honorable and given asylum and shelter no matter where they go for the nobility of their cause.

salaam,
7

I like your predictions Jannah, austmuslim and se7en. Very insightful masha'Allah. By the way things are going, I can see these things happening.

I don't think the oil will run out though. I hope not.  If that happens a serious crash will affect the world economy.  Energy will become scarce sure, but I think there will be alternate sources.

There will be a shift in world power though, methinks. There will definately be a decline in how much the west controls.  Countries in Latin America and Far East will rise and have more power on the world stage.

I hope the future will not be very dismal.  I want my kids to live a somewhat enjoyable life.

take care.

I think there will be a war or two(or maybe more), definitely more promiscuity, vulgarity, nudity, profanity and maybe the Day of Judgement. Since most of the signs have already appeared, I guess there might be a possibility.

On the tech side, technology will definitely be as advanced as ever. But I also think that like oil, rare earths will also turn into a scarce commodity and maybe a political tool as well.

wsalam,

Very interesting predictions... I think BrKhalid might have wanted predictions on new inventions and cool things and not this heavy philosophy over the future, but it is still very interesting. Smiley

SubhanAllah. That's very deep.

I think the vigilantes/justice seekers are already starting to exist ie Anonymous. They've been doing a lot of hacking lately lol.

wsalam,

Here's an article on Predictions that came true from Back to the Future Wink http://www.11points.com/movies/11_predictions_that_back_to_the_future_part_ii_got_right

And an article on what's coming up in tech trends!! http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/19/tech/innovation/top-tech-trends-2012/index.html

Crazy fun stuff... Maybe one day we'll have a bendable credit card type thing that we do everything with - call ppl, internet, watch movies!!

The only thing I don't like about tech trends is that it's all about consumerism, making ppl pay more money for stuff, instead of innovations for the sake of communication or enriching our lives...

Asalaamu Alaikum bro

Well this is all very interesting; what fervent imaginations you guys have!! Wink

I’m going to go down a different track and actually say the world is going to get richer and not poorer and increased population growth will lead to increases in income.

This is will be fuelled by the discovery and emergence of nuclear fusion as a commercial power source which will cater for the increased energy demands of the world as well as solving the global dependency on oil.

On the back of this, there will be a huge boom in technology with nano technology leading the way such that PCs and email will become extinct and we will all be contactable via our “communicator” which will also act as a means of payment and a key etc etc.

Social networking will become the norm such that people will grow accustomed to not travelling but meeting with people online via virtual rooms.

Companies will form virtual offices on the internet with workers logging on rather than taking the train or car to work. Schools will become technologically interactive with children hardly having to leave their desks.

In response to this ever increasing sedentary lifestyle, the Muslims will advocate a “back to basics, off the grid” philosophy and will be the only beings interacting in the ‘real’ world by journeying to the masjid, and actually engaging and meeting with other people. Others will see such behaviour as ‘strange’.

Wealth will become so widespread (on the back of cheap energy) such that poverty will be completely eradicated and people will become increasingly obsessed with their own individual needs and egos such that the Muslims will be the only group actually concerned with the welfare of others.

The numbers of reverts to Islam will increase as people realise the insignificance and worthlessness of their ‘virtual’ world and contemplate their own existence and what it actually means to be ‘human’.

The Madina sees a huge explosion in numbers and chat has to be upgraded to cope with the demand!!

Remember you heard it here first!! bro

PS I would have added that AbuK would give us the answer to his hadith question but I did not want to sound too far fetched Wink

Nice to see someone is optimistic about the future br Khalid!

If I may, I would add that by 2022 The Madina would have grown and gotten so much organized that it now holds an annual virtual (or physical) conference which attracts delegates from all five continents.

take care

whoaaaaaaaaaaa that's just crazy talk  dizzy  lets try to keep the future realistic shall we... Grin

The Madina virtual convention sounds cool Wink

Ok thought some more about this thread in relation to tech and future. Here's some things I'd like to see by 2022 (or earlier!):

1. Muslimah Bachelorette - yahhhhh would get way better ratings than All American Muslim :0

2. For real system of matrimonials - like a computer algorithm that you put all your stuff in as you get older and older (or just connect your facebook) and find like minded compatible perfect person!

3. Madina Avatar chat - choose your persona and move around different rooms and chat to ppl

4. Live Mosque collective - every mosque has livestreaming of prayers, lectures and events and it's all on one site so u could go there and 'be' in any mosque in the world

5. Chai wallahs - we need these at every corner as much as a dunkin donuts.

K that is all what would you guys like to see in the future?

I've kinda been holding off posting here...
I hate to be all doom and gloom...
And I'm afraid that everyone is gonna jump on my case....

I’m going to go down a different track and actually say the world is going to get richer and not poorer and increased population growth will lead to increases in income.

Wow...really..??

Things are just gonna get worse and worse, people...

We are about to reach "peak oil".  Everything in our society is built on petroleum.  It's just gonna get scarcer and scarcer.....  Even if a new car fuel is discovered, we won't be able to make more cars.  Do you know how much petroleum goes into making just one tire...?   Something like 17 gallons.  Just look around your home.  See how everything is made from petroleum?  Plastics, synthetics, linoleum, etc...

No more oil.  Everything will change.  There is a documentary called "Collapse" with Michael Ruppert.  You can probably find it on line somewhere (Surfthechannel or TVshack).  Here is the trailer....

COLLAPSE - Theatrical Movie Trailer

(There's also other documentaries you should watch, like "Corporation" and "Thirst".)

If you're in debt, get out NOW!  Save all your gold and silver; money will be worthless.  Start planting things in your back yard.  (Don't plow the soil, build it up--read about permaculture).  Use only heirloom seeds; stay away from hybrid Monsanto frankenseeds.   Raise chickens, rabbits, goats, bees,...whatever you can.  Start doing this NOW!

Any advancements in technology and medicine will only be for the 1%.  The reset of us will be struggling to survive.

You might think I sound like a nut, but consider this:  Why isn't there any talk in the news about "peak oil".  Why aren't our leaders planning ahead for this?

The more I've been learning about this stuff, the more people I find in my town who are thinking the same way and are preparing for the collapse.  Smart, educated people.
Like I said, you're probably gonna jump on my case for this....
But really, do some studying...

Prepare...
