as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

This is an excellent article from the NY Times explaining what 'Shariah' really means, in response to the archbishop of Cantebury's remarks about the possibility of having Shariah courts in the UK and the shock and horror the public had towards those comments  Roll Eyes

I think the author does a great job showing the complexity of Shariah and how it can be a viable option if the right institutions and balances are in place [namely a class of scholars who can interpret the law and have proper knowledge and legitimacy], and the reasons why many Muslims would like to live under Shariah rule as opposed to dictatorships/corruption...

check it out (it's quite long but the end is very good): http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/16/magazine/16Shariah-t.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&pagewanted=all&oref=slogin

salaam Smiley
