Bismillah

Assalam alaykum,

ssalam alaykum,

Apologies, the preceding post was actually sent yesterday, but posted today, in case anybody is mistakenly under the impression the launch is today. It's happened now, and the response has been overwhelming.

This is how it unfolded...

The penultimate tweet:

12. https://twitter.com/sktwelfare/status/342736164995883008

The launch at 10pm (UK time) yesterday:

13. Twitter: https://twitter.com/sktwelfare/status/342748005843206144
14. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SKTWelfareUK/posts/572574139453133

Please watch the short film, and circulate across your own social networks, far and wide, for the sake of #Syria. Do show your support for the film, on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. On the latter, we ask that you not only 'Like' but 'Share' the film, everywhere, to build momentum for the essential relief work that is required, now more than ever.

It's hard to describe the excitement now, in retrospect, but yesterday, as it all happened in real-time, the anticipation was palpable. If you go onto Twitter and type in the hashtag #LittleAsma, you can read, chronologically (you'll have to read it in reverse order though), or alternatively, on the SKTWelfare Twitter feed itself (again, try to read the tweets in reverse order, to get a sense of the buildup to the moment the film was launched), as well as the reaction from people once they'd watched it. It was incredible to start reading people's tweets afterwards, everybody seemed to really be affected by this sweet little angel. She is truly special, and represents a goodness which comes from this sacred land in the Levant, mentioned in the Prophetic breath, sallallahu alayhi wassalam.

#LittleAsma is a shining light in a land plagued by so much darkness right now. We hope this film helps to show that there are still things worth making an effort for, such as a future for these blessed children.

If nothing else, please make du'a for her, and all the children affected by this appalling crisis..

OK video working now. Lovely little girl. Shaam was one of those places where the knowledge and traditions were kept and protected over the centuries. I regularly met girls and anisahs that were hafizas, and that were not only hafizas, but now memorizing Sahih Bukhari or something!! I met an old lady who walked to the Mosque for every prayer for 60 years. The last pristine place on earth it was. It's so sad.

SKT Welfare and others are doing a good job, but it doesn't appear to me that change will ever come except through political means. Maybe we need to be doing more of that as well.
