Break off your chains
My son, be free!
How long enslaved
by silver, gold?
Pour the ocean
in a pitcher,
can it hold more
than one day's store?
The jug, like a greedy eye,
never gets its fill
only the contented oyster holds the pearl

Look at yourself, trembling, afraid of non-existence:
know that non-existence
is also afraid
that God might bring it into existence.
If you grasp at worldly dignities,
it's from fear, too.
Everything, except love of the Most Beautiful
is really agony. It's agony
to move towards death and not drink
the water of life.

Love is reckless; not reason.
Reason seeks a profit.
Love comes on strong, consuming herself,
unabashed.

Yet, in the midst of suffering,
Love proceeds like millstone,
hard-surfaced and straight forward.

having died to self-interest,
she risks everything and asks for nothing.
Love gambles away every gift God bestows....

Those with mirror-like hearts
do not depend on fragrance and color:
they behold Beauty in the moment.
They've cracked open the shell of knowledge
raised the banner
of the eye of certainty.
Thought is gone in a flash of light.

Quote
The Beauty of Sleep

During sleep the spirit is set free.
Behold how it rejoices in the place [of freedom].
The wicked is delivered from his wickedness;
the prisoner escapes the sorrow of his confinement.
The world appears wide, but in truth is very narrow.
Its laughter lamentation, its glory shame.

The Almighty Allah says,

"When a servant thinks of Me, I am near.
When he invokes Me, I am with him.
If he reflects on Me in secret, I reply in secret,
And if he acknowledges Me in an assembly,
I acknowledge him in a far superior assembly."

Giving Sight to the Blind

He sprang from his sleep to behold the blind man reading from the Qur’an. "O you with no eyes, how can you see those lines?"

The blind man replied, "I begged my Lord, crying, 'O You who help those who seek, restore my sight that I may read the Book of Life.' My Lord replied, 'O man of devotion, whose hope am I, when you want to read this Book of Mine, you shall have sight at that time.' So the King restored my eyes, like a lamp till the end of the night."

Just as a person is in relation to you a father
and in relation to another either son or brother --
So the names of God in their number have relations:
He is from the viewpoint of the infidel the Tyrant (qaher);
from our viewpoint, the Merciful.

With us, the name of everything is its outward appearance;
with the Creator, the name of each thing is its inward reality.
In the eye of Moses, the name of his rod was "staff";
in the eye of the Creator, its name was "dragon."
In brief, that which we are in the end
is our real name with God.

"The stories of the Prophets in the Qur'an sadden the soul within its prison. The captive soul seeks freedom from ignorance. Look to the Prophets, those souls freed from bonds. Their voices call from within their religions, "This is the way! Escape! Escape! This is the way we escaped. There is no other way but our way."

Patience in Love
Give your life for that cup of divine wisdom.
How can you succeed without endurance and patience?
To wait for the sake of that cup is no hardship.
Show patience, for patience is the key to joy!

Sometimes in order to help He makes us cry.
Happy the eye that sheds tears for His sake.
Fortunate the heart that burns for His sake.
Laughter always follows tears.
Blessed are those who understand.
Life blossoms wherever water flows.
Where tears are shed divine mercy is shown.

The outward form of things passes away, but the essence remains forever. How long will you be besotted with the shape of the jug? Cast aside the jug, and seek the water. If you look too closely at the form, you miss the essence. If you are wise, you will always pick out the pearl from the shell.

If you want great wealth,
and that which lasts forever,
Wake up!
If you want to shine
with the love of the Beloved,
Wake up!
You've slept a hundred nights,
And what has it brought you?
For your self, for your God,
Wake up! Wake up!
Sleep no more.
