As salaam alaikum.

The systematic method of performing wudu is clearly written in many of my books -- the same cannot be said for performing ghusl.

Can someone post the step by step process of from intention through to conclusion in a clear manner.

Ma'as salaama,

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

The following is based on the Shafi`i school, and includes the obligatory as well as recommended elements of ghusl without distinction:

1. Say bismillah with the intention of performing ghusl
2. Remove anything dirty that is on the body, whether legally pure (such as semen) or legally impure (such as urine)
3. Perform wudu' with the intention of either removing hadath (ritual impurity, if one is in that state), or performing a sunnah act of ghusl (in case one is not in a state of hadath)
4. Pour water over one's head with the proper intention (depending on the reason for performing ghusl)
5. Run fingers through the hair
6. Pour water over one's entire right side of the body three times, rubbing the body as water flows over it
7. Pour water over one's entire left side of the body three times, rubbing the body as water flows over it

And Allah most certainly knows best.

Wassalamu alaykum.
